Weather Permitting, Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla Likely To Reach Earth On July 15
Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla's return to Earth has already happened. According to ISRO, Shukla was initially expected to begin his journey back to Earth on July 14 and reach on July 15. He safely splashed down in the Pacific Ocean on July 15, 2025, at 3:01 p.m. IST, along with his crewmates Peggy Whitson, Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, and Tibor Kapu, aboard SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft "Grace". After landing, they'll undergo a 7-day rehabilitation program under Flight Surgeons' supervision to adapt to Earth's gravity.
Shubhanshu Shukla completed his 14-day mission to the International Space Station, conducting seven microgravity experiments, including:
- *Microgravity Experiments:*
- *Muscle Loss Study*: Decoding muscle loss in space
- *Seed Sprouting*: Sprouting green gram and fenugreek seeds in space for crew nutrition
- *Brain-Computer Interface*: Developing a brain-computer interface in microgravity
- *Tardigrades Study*: Studying survival, revival, reproduction, and transcriptome of Indian strain of Tardigrades
- *Microalgae Study*: Studying microalgae growth with relevance to life support systems
- *Crop Seeds Experiment*: Studying crop seeds in microgravity
- *Voyager Display*: Testing voyager display in space
Shukla became the first Indian to visit the ISS and the second Indian astronaut after Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma, who went to space in 1984 ¹ ².
